If I get divorced from Canadian spouse can I still apply for citizenship?

I still need one year and half to be able to apply for Canadian Citizenship, but I want divorce from him now.If I get divorced from Canadian spouse can I still apply for citizenship?
your spouse is required to sponsr you for 3 years. If you seperate from him and go on welfare - HE WILL be required to repay to the government ALL the welfare that you receive.

So if you want to be cruel then go ahead and split, and leave him facing bankruptcy. If you do this then you will not be able to get any child support from him - if you had a child - and you wont get any alimony either.

Otherwise you will still be eligible fior Citizenship, 3 years after you got your PR. Canada does not have any penalty for the foreign spouse just because they got divorced. Silly I know that these are the rules.

But OTOH if he can show that you married him ONLY to get the PR card and were not really interested in the marriage long term, then he can claim that to CIC, and if that is accepted, then you will be deported as you will have obtained your PR card by fraud. If I get divorced from Canadian spouse can I still apply for citizenship?
He must still pay for you if you go on welfare since you only got PR status 18 months ago.

What status have you had in Canada if you have been here for a few years already?

Sure does sound to me like you dont love him and that you did marry him for the citizenship.

we dont always get what we want, how we want it, and we can never have it all. if your citizenship is based on marriage, then no, you cant if you divorce. simple. because technically you are not eligible to get all the benefits that come with it, if you are no longer married. you can feel differently, but when it comes to paper, it doesnt matter what we think. you better bet is to be married and put up with your hubby's s**t... it probably not as easy, but look forward....
dont divorce him other wise u wont get citizenship tolerate him till u get the citizenship...
Tolerate him... until you get all the benefits of a CC.
